Description

Soweto Diepkloof zone 2
Often as photographers we seek a concept of home, and it is defined or interpreted differently, because the ideology of home is open to different ideologies, perhaps because of shared sentimentalism that becomes involved when reflecting on the ideology of home.

Soweto Diepkloof Zone 2 Machaganeng for me was a place that I called home. notoriously known for its dusty streets, and of course, the influx of Tonga speaking people, making up most of the population in the area. ‘machaganeng “is a somewhat derogatory slang developed around townships used to unfairly group tribes sounding similar to Tsonga, the term could also be defined as tribalistic.

Sgangeng is a photographic interpretation of my childhood memories and spaces
that I remember going to as a child, I hope with the work I explore the contrast between the beauty and ugliness of the space I grew up in.
