It was a rainy night in Durban, the roads looked a little dangerous with springbok hype all over the city. I dusted the funk of moving to a new city and went to the Durban Playhouse for a soulful treat.
The show began with Banda Banda explaining the context of music and its future in Africa. Then the beautiful Zoë Modiga joined the stage to Grace us with her beautiful presence. Her outfit was a gorgeous combination of edgy and traditional wear. I loved the headpiece, skirt and gorgeous earrings and those white boots ..
She sang my favorite songs and gave us an experience to remember. Her aura is incredibly sensual, which I didn’t expect. It lures you in and gives you goosebumps at the same time. Her presence fills the stage and she engages the crowd as she performs. I was so impressed.
The evening was concluded by Something Soweto whose outfit was very bright, yellow pants and a hat. You could tell his spirit is light and his songs were beautiful. He had the crowd dancing to his long list of hits. He took song requests from the crowd and sang our favorites. At the end the crowd wash rushing to see the Springboks play the finale.
So I asked the lady sitting behind me why she came alone, she asked me the same question. I told her I had just moved from Joburg, she said she’s also from Joburg. We’ve been friends since ..
